Olde Rhode Island Molasses

And the winner for the most plain label I’ve ever seen goes to… Olde Rhode Island Molasses Root Beer. Honestly though, this label is the equivalent of an old dusty book found in the annals of a library. You know the kind that could transplant you into a whole different world where you and your horse, we’ll call him Artex, look for the nameless princess so that you might name her. Then of course Artex gets all moody and sinks in the mud, but that’s only the start of your troubles.
Yes, the label has an unusual feel to it. One that makes me feel I’ve found a treasure that has been looked over numerous times before. Ingredient wise this is sweetened with cane sugar and flavored with Natural AND/OR Artificial flavors. That might be the absolute most vague ingredient I’ve ever seen. Either way I’m ready to blow off the dust and open this book.
As far as the aroma is concerned there’s a strong licorice scent which makes me believe this will be more about the wintergreen than the vanilla. Then again I’ve found I’m not always the best at figuring out a root beer based on its smell.
Hey, I was right! Wintergreen and molasses are the dominant flavors here with wintergreen taking the lead. It’s not my favorite flavor profile, but I’ll give it that it’s unique. The pairing of these two ingredients makes for a sharp mouthfeel. A mouthfeel that gives the roof of my mouth a tingle, much like a mouthwash would.
Carbonation wise there is a little friendly fizz, but nothing spectacular.
You know what, I’m stopping the review. Each sip I take just builds the wintergreen taste and it’s getting to a point where it’s no longer an enjoyable experience.
