Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry
/In Houston the leaves are changing from green to brown, with no beautiful in between. It now gets dark at 6pm and it’s currently 73 degrees outside. This is what Autumn looks like around these parts. We all play along adorning our yards with gourds and scarecrows. Thanksgiving is on the horizon, putting a cornucopia of food ideas within my brain. One of those foods is the humble cranberry. Sometimes fresh, sometimes in the shape of a can, it’s all cranberry to me. The cranberry I’ll be reviewing today is in the shape of a can… in the shape of a Sprite can that is. H’yuk, H’yuk.
Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry is on the table and I’m just as curious as you are to see how it tastes. Will it be like my go-to Sonic beverage the cranberry limeade? Will they actually put purpose behind the words “Winter Spiced”? I can’t wait to find out, so I won’t.
The scent pulled from the can is definitely laced with cranberry, so I’m feeling good about the Sprite taste not overpowering the visiting ingredient. I’m surprised to find a hint of a “spice” aroma as well wafting from the mouth of the can.
I think I like this quite a bit. The front end is what you would expect of a Sprite. It’s the basic Sprite Lemon-Lime (lymon if you will) taste. My main complaint with original Sprite is the finish. Sprite just doesn’t finish well, devolving into a syrupy mess that takes away from the initially great crisp feeling.
Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry does not fall to the same poor fate as original Sprite. The 2nd half of the show is where the spiced cranberry truly shines. The familiar holiday spice flavoring is present throughout the back half of the soda. Cranberry makes its way to the stage, but it’s all eyes on the spice even as Cranberry does its dance number. They both leave simultaneously to more than polite applause.
There’s no messy end for Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry. In fact this might be my favorite alternative Sprite to date. I just have one more question though.
How will it taste hot?
So, I warmed it up to a standard hot chocolate temperature and unfortunately it does not work nearly as well.
The syrups are more prevalent than before and a lot of the nuance of the drink is lost. It’s not a terrible beverage, but unlike Dr Pepper, isn’t quite as versatile at a higher temperature.
My ranking won’t be adjusted because it didn’t pass this frivolous test, I just had to find out for myself.
All in all, Sprite Winter Spice Cranberry is a delightful beverage that I believe any Sprite fan should seek out.
